How to add an SMTP server to Thunderbird

Trouble finding the "add SMTP" dialog in Thunderbird?

Thunderbird is an open-source email client that is gaining in popularity to its more expensive rival, Outlook.  This is especially the case with the release of Thunderbird 2 and its add-ons, which enable you to do virtually everything you did in Outlook.  To add an STMP server in Thunderbird 2, browse to Tools -> Account Settings.  This will bring up a listing of all your email accounts.  Scroll all the way to the bottom - the last item in the list is "Outgoing Server (SMTP)," which you can highlight and then click "Add" or "Edit" at left to add an outgoing SMTP server or edit an existing one.
