You may select to receive faxes in either TIF or PDF format. We prefer TIF, as it tends to provide slightly higher image quality, but PDF is a good option since it will run on all machines.

Thanks for the Packetel promo code - so far so good. I've been able to send and receive faxes without any issues. I used a free fax service before this, and it took forever for the faxes to arrive. I changed the default fax format to TIF - that seems to improve the fax image quality in case anyone's interested.

Not a bad service at all for faxing, thanks for the promo code. My only complaint would be that the faxes don't seem to come in at the same resolution as a physical fax machine does. Is this a limitation of the online faxing in general or of the Packetel service in particular?

Analog fax vs online fax services

Good question - as far as I know online fax services also ultimately send their faxes over phone lines, just like analog (physical) fax machines do. The difference is that they first process and translate the fax message into a format that is compatible with the phone line. This process may be causing the degradation in fax image quality you're experiencing.

I use Packetel for my online faxing needs. I have seen it being used by offshore services mainly. Anyway, it's a good way to spruce up a personal business as well.

I've been looking for a reliable way to send electronic faxes for a while now. There's so many faxing services out there, and I had a terrible experience with Efax.com - ridiculous prices and non-existent customer service. I think the Packetel promo is great, I'm only disappointed that all online fax service providers don't offer a similar "free trial"? Why wouldn't they? I haven't had any problems with Packetel so far, but I have no way of comparing them to their competitors or finding out if there's a better fax service.

I signed up for an account with Packetel and tried several times to send a fax to my assigned phone number with no success. I contacted customer no support for assistance and still haven't heard a word after three days.

Funny you would say that - we've been using Packetel for a while now and haven't seen or had any complaints. Then again, we haven't really experienced any problems with the system, so we haven't had to ask Packetel for support.
