What is Digital Line Detect (DLG.exe)?

Is Digital Line Detect (DLG.exe) a necessary Windows process?

No, in fact, it's made by the same company (BVRP) responsible for known spyware applications.  In this case, the Digital Line Detect process is part of the Phone Tools Software Suite - offering emailing, faxing, and phone book utilities.  If you don't recognize this you're probably not using it - and it's safe to say you can remove it via Add/ Remove Programs without running into problems.  In fact, it's probably not a bad idea, especially if the program has access to the Internet.

We're not sure, but we think this may come pre-installed on Dell computers.

Tired of Unwanted Software?

Want to get rid of unnecessary software such as Digital Line Detect for good? Check out the Secure Uninstaller. It will help you:

  • Thoroughly Removes Unwanted Software
  • Frees up Disk Space, Speeding up your PC
  • Solves Uninstall Problems
  • Fast, Safe, and Easy to Use

Did you know that when you install an application, numerous files and entries are created and distributed all over your PC? The Digital Line Detect that shipped with your laptop is not the only software that came pre-installed. Before you know it, your computer is one massively heavy, bloated system filled with completely unnecessary – and potentially unsafe – files.

So the next time you think it's OK to allow unused programs to use your computer as their 'permanent home'... consider the following problems.

  • Your PC will slow down.
  • Because unneeded software is occupying valuable disk space.
  • Your PC will be prone to errors.
  • When you install a program, numerous entries are created all over the Windows® registry. If any of these entries get damaged or corrupted, other applications will be harmed and PC error messages will pop up all over the place.
  • You will not be able to upgrade software easily.
  • When you update to a new version of a program, it first tries to uninstall the version currently installed on your PC. If this un-installation is unsuccessful, you will not be able to upgrade to newer versions of that product.
  • Your PC is being drained of important resources.
  • Even though you may not think you are using certain programs, they may be working in the background and hogging important system resources such as memory resources, network resources, and others.
  • Your system will be open to security threats. Some applications – especially the ones that are hard to uninstall! – embed malicious codes that serve to open your system to hack attacks. Others put codes that tend to spy on what you're doing, making you vulnerable to identity theft.

To prevent all the above problems, you should be sure to clean your PC and get rid of every piece of software that you do not use. Uninstall unused, damaged or unwanted programs Instantly with Secure Uninstaller. Try it today!

digital line detect

Dell showed I needed urgent update for my modem. When downloaded it was BVRP digital line detect. I use a DSL home line only. Why was this an urgent update and should I keep it? Ey

Digital Line Detect

This software works with the Modem in your Dell to detect if it's attached to a *digital* phone line. You may have such a line in your office or hotel, where it would be connecting to a PBX. Typically, you will have an analog PSTN line at home (in North America), although some countries have moved to digital lines (e.g. Japan).

If you NEVER need to worry about connecting to a digital PBX, go ahead and delete this software.

DLG.exe.Windows?

TO AFAR: NO its not windows fault, again, its the DELL!!!. They can be a great company or a pain in the ass if you need a lan card, blah blah and some ISP companies wont even assist you, if you do have the ole Dell. This application is good and bad. If you will be using your smart phone connecting at times to the internet, I would leave it. I find it is much easier to delete then reinstall and often you are not able to do so. You do need to keep an eye on it, but I seriously doubt that SPYWARE can do a damn thing.

I have a Dell too, just noticed it and that is why I am on this forum. Thank God for forums. I try to learn things on my own because every time I get a tech I trust, well, things are often worse after they leave. When in doubt, go to the forums, when in doubt, leave it, monitor it. If you start noticing odd behavior, chances are someone is peeping and delete the damn thing, call you cell phone company and ISP carrier and get some help from them too. Not too much is safe anymore, and if someone can get info off your computer from having your cell number, uhh, that's not good. Scary world.

DLG.exe Windows?

Why all the comments blaming Windows for this? It's Dell that seems to be responsible for most of your installations...you do know that Dell is just a company that sells computers loaded with Windows and that they add whatever programs they want?

Dig Line Detect

Yes,

I've got Digital Line Detect as well on my Dell. Why is it considered spyware? Are there any advantages to having it? And why does Dell install it to begin with?

Thanks

Remove DLG

If you don't recognize this you're probably not using it - and it's safe to say you can remove it via Add/ Remove Programs without running into problems. In fact, it's probably not a bad idea, especially if the program has access to the Internet.

Digital Line Detect

Ya it came pre-installed on my Dell Inspiron 1501.

DLG.exe on Dells

It does come pre-installed on Dells. I have to get rid of it every time I reformat. Sad Blasted Windows!

Digital Line Detect

Digital Line Detect was pre-installed on my Dell Inspiron 1300 as well.

Yep, it's on my Dell...

Yep, the DLG.exe (digital line detect) process is on my Dell...I don't think I had it before, but when I reformatted it showed up. =|

DLG.exe process

I really get fed up with all the Windows processes I can't make sense of. Thanks for helping me out on this one.

You have a really nice blog

You have a really nice blog here based on drupal. I am thinking of starting a blog and have been testing drupal on my local machine. I have a couple of questions if you do not mind answering.

Ask away

No problem - what are your questions?

digital line detection

Tead your advice and would like to get rid of DLD. However, I have my phone used as a hookup for wireless on a need-as basis.

Would this effect that process? FYI it has been on my computer for a while as a startup process and I have a year old very "tech capable" laptop (Lenovo/IBM). I can't recall if this has been a program since I owned this computer or my cell phone's software installation.

Can you help as I am afraid of removing it due to the difficulty of re-setup of wireless/DSL via phone. I use this whenever I am not home based & it is a really needed process. Thank you so much. Wanda

DLD - keep or remove?

Hi Wanda,

If you're worried about it affecting your computer's wireless functionality I would leave it as is, unless it's causing problems. Just make sure you have anti-spyware and anti-virus installed that can detect any malicious processes.
